Car Lockout at the Milton GO Station or a Local Plaza: Quick Tips

Milton is a commuter town, and a lockout in a commuter lot can turn a tight morning into a long one. A few habits and a clear approach save time.

First, check the basics

Look at every door, including the trunk or hatch, since one may be unlocked. Check the pockets of the coat and bag you carried. If a family member holds a spare, call them.

Key inside or key lost?

If the key is visible inside, a car lockout can open the vehicle without a key. If the key cannot be found, say so when you call; getting into the car is the part we handle, and the dispatcher will tell you what is possible. Tell the dispatcher which applies.

What to have ready

The year, make and model, and the VIN if you can read it on the windshield corner or a document. The type of key: metal, chip key, fob or smart key. The number of working keys. Your ID and a document showing ownership.

Safety

Do not leave a child or pet in a locked vehicle. If there is any risk to life, call emergency services first. In a public lot, stay in a visible area, and do not accept help from strangers who offer to open the car.

Winter and summer

In cold weather, wait somewhere warm and tell the dispatcher. In hot weather, get into shade and hydrate.

Avoiding a repeat

Keep a spare key at home. Consider a magnetic box only if it is well hidden and not obvious. Check your fob battery regularly.

Getting help

Call with your location. We’ll confirm availability and price before dispatch. See the Milton page.

Before you call from a station lot

Stay in a lit, visible place near the vehicle and tell the dispatcher which lot you are in, the row or landmark and the vehicle’s make, model and colour. Have registration and ID ready. If you have a commuter pass or an appointment, mention it so the dispatcher can aim for the right arrival time. Do not try to open the door with tools from a hardware store; airbag wiring and door seals are easy to damage and repairs cost far more than a service call.
