A Maintenance Checklist for Warehouse Personnel Doors in Brampton

Personnel doors in a warehouse or industrial condo take more abuse than most house doors. They are opened by staff, drivers and visitors many times a day, kicked open with carts, and left ajar in all seasons. A short inspection routine catches problems before a door fails on a busy shift.

Monthly checks

Open and close each door and watch the closer. It should close the door firmly, without slamming or leaving it a few centimetres open. Test the latch by closing the door and checking that it holds. Look at the hinges for loose screws or wear, since a sagging door quickly damages the latch. If the door has an exit device, push the bar and confirm it retracts the latch without sticking.

Seasonal checks

Cold weather stiffens closers and can leave doors slightly open, which affects both security and heating. Summer humidity and dust cause other problems. Check weatherstripping, the door sweep and the threshold. Look at exterior cylinders for grit, and clear the strike of debris.

Keys and access

Keep a list of who holds keys, cards or codes. When someone leaves, remove their access, and rekey or reissue cards if a key was not returned. See our master-key system and access control pages for options where many people need different levels of access.

Fire and egress

Do not disable, prop open or chain any door that serves as an exit. Fire-rated and exit doors have requirements for closers, latches and signage, and repairs to them should respect those. We will tell you when a job should involve a qualified fire-safety or door professional.

Log and act

Note what you found and when. A door that has been adjusted three times in a season needs a repair, not a fourth adjustment. Our door closers and panic bars service covers closers, exit devices and related repairs, and commercial locksmith covers cylinders and rekeying.

Ask before you change shared doors

In a multi-tenant building, the landlord or property manager may control certain doors. Confirm who authorizes the work before a technician starts. For details of our coverage, see the Brampton page.
